Day 2: Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Moulay Idriss – Fes
After breakfast, depart Chefchaouen toward the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis. Explore remarkably preserved mosaics, arches, and columns that reveal Morocco’s Roman past.
Continue to the hilltop town of Moulay Idriss for panoramic views and a short stop before heading to Fes. Upon arrival, enjoy an introduction to the city by exploring its historic gates and walls or relaxing with a traditional welcome tea while watching the sunset.
Day 3: Fes Guided Tour – Middle Atlas – Merzouga Desert
Begin the day with a guided walking tour of Fes, one of the world’s oldest medieval cities. Explore its UNESCO-listed medina, bustling souks, artisan quarters, and historic institutions that have shaped Moroccan culture for centuries.
After the visit, travel south through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Stop in Ifrane, known for its alpine-style architecture, and continue through cedar forests where Barbary macaques live freely. Pass through mountain towns and scenic valleys before reaching the edge of the Sahara Desert in Merzouga by late afternoon.
Here, swap the vehicle for camels and ride across the dunes as the sun sets over the sand. Continue to the desert camp, where dinner, traditional music, and a magical night beneath the stars await.
Day 4: Merzouga Desert – Rissani – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley
Wake early to admire sunrise over the dunes before leaving the desert. Travel to Rissani, an important trading center with a traditional market that still serves surrounding desert communities (on market days).
Continue toward the impressive Todra Gorges, where towering canyon walls rise dramatically above a clear river. Enjoy time to walk through the gorge and appreciate its natural beauty.
